Most Racing Accidents Can Be Avoided With Proper Training
With higher speeds come more accidents. Reduced speeds and better driver training can help reduce the likelihood of deadly crashes.
/North Carolina News Articles/ - SUPPLY, NC, July 18, 2008 - With the recent death of Scott Kalitta, the son of longtime driver and team owner Connie Kalitta, safety has become a major concern in the sport of drag racing - so much so that many in the sport are willing to sacrifice speed for safety.
"We need to ratchet the speeds back some," Graham Light, the NHRA's senior vice president of racing operations was quoted as saying in a recent interview. "For the fans, we still want 300-mph race cars. But do we need 330-mph race cars? I think the answer is no."
Crashes do not just kill drivers. They also kill crew members, officials and spectators. Accidents have often been the catalyst for better safety measures and in some cases, rule changes. However, like any type of accident prevention, proper training and the formation of skill sets are the first defense against such accidents.
Daniel Charles, CEO of Global Racing Schools, feels that proper training can help prevent many of these accidents.
"In drag racing, (involving the fastest speeds any car can achieve), safety is a high concern, stated Mr. Charles, when starting out in the sport, attending a racing school is going to jump start one's career and increase the chances of safety and the odds of success."
The number of students attending racing schools has exploded in recent years. Attendance at a racing school offers an experience unlike any other, in that it teaches thrill seekers, current drivers and aspiring drivers how to take the first steps toward learning to drive like the pros. This experience is direct, hands-on and is highly geared towards learning to drive safely.
The types of experiences available vary widely, including NASCAR, Dragster, Formula 1, Formula 3 and karting experiences. Nearly anyone can do it. Individuals are booking these experiences in ever larger numbers. Corporations have discovered these packages also and are now offering them to 'special' clients as incentives or to employees as perks or rewards. Aspiring drivers hoping to gain experience on the track can do so in a real time, real life environment. More drivers means more safety concerns. Attending a racing school makes getting real life training very easy to accomplish.
Global Racing Schools in not a racing school but rather acts as the authorized agent for over 300 of these schools worldwide. Our goal is to handle all the myriad details for the client. This costs the client nothing, as we are paid by the schools directly for our services.
Safety training should begin at a very early age. The need for training in regards to reaction speeds, car control and the like are essential elements to getting good results for drag racing, stated Mr. Charles, drag racing is a sport that is even for kids, as there are junior classes for those who wish to participate. I highly recommend that anyone even considering the sport should take the time to participate in a professional training program.
