Competitive runner registration is closed, capped at 6,000 due to the road capacity of Hillsborough Street, yet organizers are encouraging individuals to support the event with a financial donation and merchandise purchase (http://krispykremechallenge.com/_catalog_75350/K2C_Merchandise). All merchandise proceeds benefit the North Carolina Children's Hospital.
To complete the Krispy Kreme Challenge, competitors begin at the NC State Bell Tower at 8:30 a.m., run two miles to the Krispy Kreme store on Peace Street, eat a dozen doughnuts, and run two miles back to the Bell Towerall in less than one hour.
"We are amazed at the growth of the Krispy Kreme Challenge in its first five years," explains Porterfield. "The tremendous community support and generosity helps us provide an annual donation for the kids and families at North Carolina Children's Hospital."
About the Krispy Kreme Challenge:
The Krispy Kreme Challenge started in December 2004 as a dare between a few N.C. State undergraduate students. Now in its sixth year, the event has grown to an astounding 5,500 participants in 2009 raising $40,000 for charity. The event was listed as #85 on the "102 More Things You Gotta Do Before You Graduate" list by Sports Illustrated. Organizers wanted the challenge to not only be an event to bring together people from all over the country, but also to benefit an important cause along the way. It was no surprise, when organizers selected The NC Children's Hospital as the most deserving beneficiary of this ultimate collegiate challenge. Visit http://www.krispykremechallenge.com/.

In addition, the hospital has the state's only fully accredited hospital school, which keeps patients from kindergarten to 12th grade on top of their studies. The medical amenities include a newborn critical care facility, a cardiac care unit, and a comprehensive cancer center. For more information, visit www.ncchildrenshospital.org.
