Phil Kirk Named Legacy Leader

RALEIGH, NC, March 07, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Phillip J. Kirk, Jr., director of Brady Energy Services (www.bradyservices.com), has been honored with a Legacy Leader Award by Triangle Business Journal and Boom! Magazine. The inaugural distinction celebrates individuals 50 years and older who have had a positive and lasting impact on the Triangle community. Kirk and 14 others have received the award.

"It is a tremendous honor to be recognized as a Legacy Leader," says Kirk. "Looking back, I am humbled by the many people I have met along the way and hope I have had a positive influence on their lives."

Kirk has long committed his focus to raising education standards and advancing business in the Triangle and North Carolina. Kirk currently serves as chair of the North Carolina Public School Forum board of directors. He is also a member of the Learning Station board and the boards for UNC-TV, Meredith College, Visiting International Faculty program and the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching Foundation.

About Phil Kirk:
A native of Rowan County, Phil Kirk is the president/CEO emeritus of the North Carolina Chamber and chairman emeritus of the North Carolina State Board of Education. He is currently the chairman of the North Carolina Pubic School Forum board of directors, is a member of the boards of UNC-TV, Meredith College, the Learning Station, the Visiting International Faculty Program and the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching Foundation. He is former vice chairman of the State Board of Community Colleges and has served on advisory boards at East Carolina University and North Carolina State University.

Kirk has served as chief of staff for Governors Jim Holshouser and Jim Martin, and U.S. Senator Jim Broyhill. He has also served as secretary of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services under two Governors. Kirk most recently served as vice president for external relations at Catawba College, his alma mater, for three years. Kirk has also worked in nursing home management, as a special assistant to the Dean of the College of Management at North Carolina State University and as a teacher in the Rowan-Salisbury Schools.
