IREM's September Meeting Features UNC-CH's Associate Athletic Director of Marketing Rick Steinbacher
Former local college football player to discuss how athletic lessons transitioned to formula for business success

RALEIGH, NC, September 22, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Greater Raleigh-Durham Chapter 105 of the Institute of Real Estate Management's (IREM) September meeting will feature speaker Rick Steinbacher, Associate Athletic Director for Marketing and New Media for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Steinbacher will present "Applied Lessons: How I Took the Lessons in My Athletic Career and Used Them in Business and Life" at noon on Wednesday, September 21st at Capital City Club, Progress Energy Building/21st Floor, 410 S. Wilmington Street in Raleigh.

Steinbacher has worked for UNC-CH's athletic department since January, 2000 and currently oversees all marketing and promotions for the university's 28-sport varsity program, coordinates sales efforts with Learfield Communications, directs corporate relations, oversees all in-stadium video productions, and serves as administrative liaison with the UNC-CH band and spirit squads. He also has spent eleven years on the Tar Heel Sports Network broadcast team and is currently the color analyst for all football broadcasts.

A native of Greenville, SC, Steinbacher played football at UNC-CH from 1990-93 and started 30 games at inside linebacker. He captained the 1993 team that went 10-3, beat Southern California in the Disneyland Pigskin Classic, and played Alabama in the Gator Bowl. Carolina went 32-14-1 in his four years. He also had the distinction of earning third-team All-ACC honors as a senior.

"I am looking forward to the [September] IREM meeting and sharing some thoughts on the most important lessons I've learned in a lifetime of working in and competing in athletics," says Steinbacher. "The lessons that lead to success in competition are the same things that lead to success in business and at home."

Current IREM president, Jason Stowe, CPM , says that having a speaker representing the sports industry is rather uncommon for his organization, but adds that Steinbacher's message is relevant across all businesses and professions.

"The lessons that Rick has learned both on and off the field will definitely resonate with our membership," explains Stowe. "His personal and professional story is one of perseverance, dedication, and commitment. His accomplishments on the playing field and within the business community are distinguished and admirable. I look forward to hearing his lessons for success and anticipate a very instructive and interactive meeting."
