"While pre-hire records checks are commonly done," explains Johnny Lee, webinar speaker and President of ePanic Button, "the practice of post-hire, continual checks may be warranted, especially in investigating misconduct cases.

"Post-hire records checks can be used in threat assessments to discover recent incidents and the potential state-of-mind of any threatening employee, " says Lee.

The webinar will discuss the ethics, privacy and confidentiality of post-hire records checks, and will explore practical applications of checking criminal records of employees after hire.

It will also review legal considerations, including the SAFE Act of 2004, which loosened requirements to notify current employees that a check is being done. Relevant cases will also be examined.

Johnny Lee is an expert in workplace security and violence prevention. He was formerly Workplace Violence Specialist for the Office of State Personnel in Raleigh, North Carolina, Training Director for the UNC-Chapel Hill Injury Prevention Research Center's PREVENT program, and Victim Services Coordinator for the Asheville, North Carolina Police Department.

Mr. Lee has been active on the Victim Services Interagency Council of North Carolina, Board of Directors for the Businesses Continuity Planners of the Carolinas, the American Society of Safety Engineers, the NC Victim Assistance Network, and the Public Health Alliance to Prevent Violence against Women.

His book, "Counting the Cost: Addressing Domestic Violence in the Workplace," examines what every business professional needs to know about domestic violence intervention.
